Weapon of Death: Reed Brush.  Unlike other brushes this one has a blade at the end instead of the brush tip.  Of course not for combat use, the brush reflects his days as a scribe under the guidance of his father.

Cell phone: Samsung Galaxy S5

Obituary:

Year of birth: 933
Year of death: 906

Cause of death: Tuberculosis

Before he could finish his training to become a priest Alim fell ill to the disease.  He tried to fight it off (even hide it from others) but eventually succumbed to it during one of his private lessons.  His body was found in the privacy of his study a few days later by his father.

Bio:

Waking up in a field of beautiful chrysanthemums wasn't part of Alim's plan after he passed into the afterlife.  Where were the gates* he had to go through before finally arriving to the hall of judgement? Was his heart not going to be weighed?  He had expected a field of reeds*, not flowers.  Instead of meeting face to face with the gods he had revered dedicated his life to though Alim was met with a woman, the embodiment of Death itself to be more clear about it.  Of course this meant that he had actually died, but instead of passing through and brought into a state of rest to await revivification, like it was taught by his father, he was immediately dubbed an "apprentice" and his job was far from over.

As he passed day after day learning about this unkown afterlife the man was seen with troubled thoughts and an unsettling feeling about this Death entity.  All of the views and teachings he had received when he was once alive were immediately brought down to nothing  when he watched other apprentices cut the fine threads that connected with those in the living realm.  Not wanting to be a part of the active duty he dedicated himself to be a full time book keeper, filling out reap orders instead of actually fulfilling them.  When he had done it at first it always left a horrible feeling in his gut, so it was better for him to pass on that.

The more he learned about the mechanics of this life (was this even the afterlife?) Alim could feel that something was wrong.  At least to him.  Why them?  How did Death choose the apprentices?  Was it all at random?  Was he one of the few unfortunate ones to be chosen, stripped from never seeing their family and loved ones until their duties were fulfilled?  To him this was punishment, and as a man that had done little to even invoke the wrath of the gods Alim felt like this had been unjustified.  Surely others felt like this right?  He kept quiet though, not wanting to anger those that held Death in high regard.  Plus, those that have shown signs of thinking the same were those that fell and never returned back to HQ...

Time passed and his view on Death never changed.  As one of the oldest there he watched as more apprentices came in.  He watched as most of them had their views and ideals crushed, sympathizing with them as he had also gone through that experience.  Alim, instead of turning bitter towards the others, helped them out as much as he could in transitioning to their new lives.  The only thing he never did agree on was his partners, never keeping a team for more than a couple of years, even less than a few weeks in between.  He was a difficult one to work with, simply because he didn't share their views.  To be honest for him it had been harder and harder to stay, his reason of staying waning as time passed.  At this point he knew he'll never see his loved ones in the supposed higher planes, so what was the point in staying?  It wasn't until he was partnered up again that he found a new reason to stay, albeit small but so significant.  Who would've thought he'd find some type of happiness within this purposeless half life...

But even that couldn't last, and after a few more years he left, leaving a note behind for his partner explaining his reasons but keeping it short so they wouldn't punish her as well.  He had hopes that she'd follow, in her own time, but Alim has been waiting all these years and no word has he heard from her.  Till this day he hasn't forgotten but he has moved on, settled down in New York as the owner of a book shop  that is empty most if not all of the time.  He doesn't mind the solidarity, but he does miss the company.

:new:

Not really left with a choice, Alim joined the hunters.  Congrats guys, you got an old man to join ya :iconskankyplz:

field of reeds: he is talking about the Field of Reeds, the land of wish-fulfillment and the first place people arrive when going into the afterlife.

gates: there are seven gates a person has to go through before arriving at the Hall of Judgement, where your heart is weighed to see if you are qualified to pass through or get your heart eaten by Amemet.

Extra:

-Alim remembered most of his life, the parts that were missing coming back as the years passed
-The book shop also doubles as his home with the top floor being his living space
-He is not one to say no or turn away from those that need help
-Is wary of hunters, but as long as they don't cause trouble he has no problems with them
-He would really prefer it if people don't fight in his shop (I mean who would fight inside a book shop :v )
-DESPISES BIRDS.  He has no love for the feathery demons.
-Owns two cats and adores them to death (lol get it).  Probably has an instagram with pictures of only him and his cats.
-His two cats can be seen lounging in the book shop on top of shelves and books.
-He has also "adopted" all the stray cats in his neighborhood (back off birds :V )
-Enjoys taking care of bonsai trees (owns several/ has some around the shop)
-likes floral patterned clothes
-Having lived for so long Alim tends to go with the times instead of staying stagnant in his old ways.  He's seen enough to know that its better to go with the flow than stick to the past
-The scar on his eye was a "gift" from a hunter when he tried to protect an apprentice
-He has a cynical view of Death and Fate but feels pity for the apprentices
-His favorite musicals are Wicked, Les Miserables, and Chicago

Contact: skype, chat, google docs (you have to remind me we have one here because i forget), and ill try to be active in the forums

Team/Roommates: None at the moment

STR: 1 His strength mainly comes from doing yoga and tai chi.  Alim is not one to condone violence; he is more brains than brawn.
DEX: 2 His reflexes and motor skills are sharp, albeit a bit slow when he's taken by surprise.
CON: 1 He died from a disease, so there's not much to say about how durable he is.  Better than a human's but not overly so.
INT: :new: 5 As a scribe studying to become a priest he was one of the lucky ones to have higher education in Egypt.  Of course this never wavered as the years passed, his love for knowledge strong as he keeps up with the times.
WIS: :new: 4 Alim is a walking museum display, just saying.  But really, his experiences throughout the years have taught him much, and he will take any opportunity to impart his wisdom to the younger generations.
CHA: 3 Bit of a silver tongue Alim can be very persuasive when he wants to.  For one that enjoys socializing he has no problem speaking to others.
